All the social welfare activities in and around Rashidabad are undertaken as a joint venture with Mustafa Benevolent Trust (MBT).
TAKING KIDS FROM THE EARTHQUAKE EFFECTED AREAS
The year 2006 started with the clouds of gloom hovering over the Northern Areas of the country following the devastating earthquake of October 8th 2005 which left over 85000 dead and millions injured and rendered homeless. MBT rushed in to the rescue to retrieve 104 children from the snow and cold to provide them warmth and safe home at Rashidabad. All of them had only one thing in common each had lost a parent or both.
Abu Makar remained entombed in the rubble in Muzzafarabad for over 90 hours after the quake before being rescued. Nothing was heard of his father left him with us many an eye couldn’t help shedding a tear. His confidence belies the ordeal he’s been through. His teachers are all praise for him.
AMZI HOME
The project of providing a home to kids without a parent has now snow balled into a gigantic project AMZI HOME. Now our Children 100 in all come from all over Pakistan, in all sizes, speaking half a dozen languages yet they all have one thing in common each has lost a father, mother or both parents. They have found solace and happiness. They are children who at a tender age have experienced extreme trauma of having lost their dearest ones. Yet they have learned to smile again. Thanks to the attention and dedication of the volunteers and workers at AMZI Home.
The year 2005 saw the beginnings of the Grand amongst the buildings of Rashidabad AMZI Home a project of Mustafa Benevolent Trust. The building will be home to 288 orphans and 32 Senior Citizens once it is completed in 2007. The work on this State of the Art building is progressing rapidly.
PROVIDING SUCCOR TO THE RAIN AFFECTEES OF JHANDO MARI
The heavy and almost conti9nuous rains of late July and August of 2006 were unprecedented and caused large scale havoc and misery in lower Singh. Whole villages were inundated or marooned and men and beasts sought the safety of high ground for survival. Some of the school through marooned still remained dry having been built on high ground. The survey revealed that the worst hit by this calamity were nine villages of the Jhando Mari Tehsil.
The volunteers of Rashidabad compiled lists of the affected families in each village personally. Extreme care was exercised to include widows, orphans and the elderly and their dependents. These families were then provided with desperately needed food rations.
All told 210 families or around 1400 people benefited from the joint effort of the two Welfare Organizations and relief was afforded to the deserving.
REPAIRING HOME OF THE POOR DEVASTATED BY THE RAINS
The unprecedented deluge of 190 MM of rain in 12 hours, around Rashidabad, including Tando Allahyar, Tando Jam and other small towns of Tharparkar area left a wide swath of devastation in its wake. A large number of kutcha homes were badly damaged or completely destroyed by the fury of this downpour Volunteers went around the villages surrounding Rashidabad identifying homes needing financial assistance for rebuilding or repairs. Quite a large number of such homes were thus rehabilitated or completely rebuilt.
MARRYING OFF GIRLS FROM POOR FAMILIES
Quite a large number of girls of marriageable age from poor families in the villages pine away at home because their parents cannot marry them off being financially very poor. The lives of such girls are very miserable because they are considered a burden on the family. Project has taken upon itself to arrange a small dowry and a simple meal for the relatives of such brides and their grooms. A total of 26 girls have been married off till now through humble functions at Rashidabad. Additionally we also help out financially and materially in the marriage of girls of our staff working in Rashidabad.
DISTRIBUTION OF CLOTHES & RATIONS DURING RAMZAN
Every year during Ramzan it has been the practice to distribute clothes and rations among the poor and needy staff, workers and labourers in Rashidabad. Around three hundred such families benefit from this facility each year since 2004.
DISTRIBUTION OF RATIONS TO FLOOD EFFECTEES IN BADIN
During the floods in Badin two trucks with relief goods and rations headed out for Badin. Students of IX and X class of the YK Academy accompanied these tucks and helped in the distribution. This helped in initiating these young boys into the field of Social Welfare as also exposure to the less fortunate.
DISTRIBUTION OF WOOLIES & QUILTS DURING WINTER OF 2006
The winter of 2006 was a little more severe than usual. It was thus felt that the workers and labourers needed sweaters, coats and quilts to keep warm. Large quantities of these articles were then procured from Karachi and distributed in Rashidabad at greatly subsidized rates.
DISTRIBUTION OF MEAT AT THE TIME OF EID-UL-AZHA
With the passage of time more and more people offer sacrificial animals for slaughtering in Rashidabad. During 2006 twenty-two cows and twelve goats were sacrificed.
