YK ACADEMY
The YK Academy that had started off with only nineteen children in Tando Allayar in 1999 is a full-fledged High School with over 450 students. Almost 20 percent of the students studying here are subsidized. As a result most of the children of our workers from teachers to cleaning women have access to quality education. Discipline and ethics continue to be the hallmark of this institution. The year 2005 saw the first batch of sixteen students passing their Matriculation Examination with flying colours. Twelve of them scored more than 75 percent-no mean achievement !
THE CITIZENS FOUNDATION SCHOOL
August 2006 say a new landmark on the horizon of Rashidabad-The Citizens Foundation School. Its construction started in 2005 March and it opened its portals for the poor and needy students in August 2006. There are presently 250 students enrolled in it but the number shall Inshalla grow to its full strength of 900 students in the next few years. The fees depends on the financial health of the parents of the child studying. Many poor students from the surrounding areas have enrolled in it in droves.
SUFFAH LITERACY PROJECT
RMWO in collaboration with MBT set up Non Formal Schools in the villages surrounding Rashidabad within a radius of 20 kilometers. The project took off in March 2004 with the setting up of a school in the village of Pir Kathi, 10 Km away. By now we are running 13 such schools. Matriculate girl in the village is sought out who is then put through a one week Basic Teachers Training Program at Rashidabad.
Following the Training Program these girls are provided with a blackboard, a generous supply of chalk, duster, mats and books for forty students. The teacher and paid a paltry stipend of Rs.1000 a month for their efforts. The timings for these schools are different for different villages depending on the convenience of the students. The courses run for four months each for Urdu, Mathematics & Basic English.
It costs us about Rs.40,000 per year to run each school.
SARGODHIAN SPIRIT TRUST PUBLIC SCHOOL
Established by the PAF Public School Sargodha Old Boys Association the Sargodhian Spirit Trust Public School is a boarding institution with a capacity for taking in 400 boys. Started in August 2005 the School this year will swell to 250. With excellent educational and sports facilities it is one of its kind in the province of Sindh.
TEACHERS’ TRAINING PROGRAMS
Teachers’ Training Programs are regularly organized. During the summer of 2006 two programs of two months each were held back to back with 25 girls each. Most of these were teachers from our own schools of Tando Allahyar as also fresh graduates seeking to improve their qualifications. Seven of these fresh graduate students were ultimately selected by The Citizens Foundation School.
Seventeen of our teachers from the YK Academy also attended Teachers Training sessions ranging from two weeks to one month at the Teacher Development Centre and New Century Educators in Karachi, as also the Degree College PAF Korangi. |
